Round Table on Germany’s Basic Law at the Institute of Comparative Law in Belgrade

To mark the 75th anniversary of Germany’s Basic Law, the Institute of Comparative Law in Belgrade hosted a round table on its historical importance and enduring impact on legal and democratic frameworks on 22 October, 2024. Experts examined the development of constitutional principles, Germany’s legal legacy, and its influence on European governance models.

Forum on Nuclear Law and IAEA Inter-regional Training Course on Nuclear Law hosted at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law

The Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety Directorate hosted a nuclear law forum at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law. This event introduced key nuclear law topics as a precursor to a two-week Inter-regional Course on Nuclear Law, co-organized with the IAEA. Speakers highlighted nuclear law’s role and the potential for incorporating it into educational programs to support Serbia’s development in nuclear energy use.

EU Enlargement and Successful Integration: Lessons Learned

From autumn 2024, the Central European Academy Professors' Network has launched 8 new research groups. The first of these groups is the so called “Successful EU Enlargement" group, which held a conference this autumn entitled "EU Enlargement and Successful Integration: Lessons Learned" between 7-8 November, 2024. The first conference was retrospective, focusing on the experiences of individual countries.

Conference titled „European and National Vision” in Budapest

The Minority Policy Research Group and the Research Institute for Politics and Government of Ludovika University of Public Service jointly organized the international conference titled “European and National Vision” on 11 November, 2024 in Budapest, in the university's Széchenyi Hall.

ELLYS International Young Scholars Conference

This year, a two-day conference entitled “Workers at Crossroads: Contemporary Challenges of Labour and Social Security Law in Europe: Same Problems, Different Approaches?” was held in cooperation with the Central European Academy between 14-15 November, 2024 in Budapest. This conference provided an opportunity for several passionate young scholars to discuss their research.

The Faculty of Economics, Health and Social Sciences of the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary and The Department of Financial Law and Economic Law of the University of Pécs Faculty of Law are organizing an international online conference on 27 November, 2024.

The next conference of the Professors' Network will be entitled “Assisted Reproductive Technologies (ART) and the best interests of the child - General issues”, and will take place between 28-29 November, 2024. The group called ART was formed by merging the initials of the title Assisted Reproductive Technologies.

Children’s Rights Days III

The year of 2024 is the 35th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (hereinafter referred to as UNCRC) as well as the 100th anniversary of the Geneva Declaration which was the very first document on an international level concerning the rights of the child. A “Children’s Rights Days III” is the third annual international conference on children’s rights which will take place between 5-6 December, 2024.

I Polish-Hungarian Scientific Forum (I PHSF)

The I Polish-Hungarian Scientific Forum will launch a collaborative dialogue between Polish and Hungarian researchers, focused on key legal issues between 12-13 December, 2024. The event is part of the Polish-Hungarian Research Platform and will introduce the preliminary findings of five research groups addressing shared challenges between the two countries.

Current Regulations Pertaining to Assisted Reproduction Technologies

We invite you to a free webinar in English on Google Meet about the current regulations pertaining to assisted reproduction technologies as one of the means to combat the fertility decline in Romania and Central Europe on 13 December, 2024. Romania has known a fertility decrease since the 1990s. The legal response has often not kept pace with the evolving fertility technologies.

Equality in the Interpretation and Application of EU Law

The objective of this workshop is to examine the means by which the CJEU ensures the uniformity of EU law, both in terms of its interpretive work and the application of the principle of equality in the interpretation and subsequent application of EU law by the Court of Justice and national courts. The date of the workshop is 29 November, 2024.

Oxford Debate – qualifying round

On 13 November, 2024 the Central European Academy hosted an engaging mini debate to determine our representatives for the upcoming Warsaw Debate. Our junior researchers tackled the thought-provoking topic, “Equality in an Ever-Integrating Europe” in an Oxford Debate format.

New Publication: “European Legislation on Food and Agriculture”

The Institute for European Studies in Belgrade recently published a book titled “European Legislation on Food and Agriculture: An Overview of the Most Important Regulations in the Field of Food and Agriculture in Europe”. Written by Dr. Dušan Dabović, the book provides a comprehensive analysis of EU regulations governing food and agriculture, focusing on the critical standards and practices influencing the sector throughout Europe.
